No doubt by now you know that the owner and proprietor of Comic Relief in Berkley has met the Black Racer.
He was a funky dude, who was said to be the inspiration for the Simpson's comic book guy. (He may have told me this, I can't remember). He had a great store! The only comic book shop I've seen that equals it is Midtown Comics New York and that's saying a lot. He used to come by where I worked years ago to pick up orders of manga. He was an early adapter of manga and had a huge section before most could see it's potential. Always nice (and I fucked up his order more than once!) and always willing to shoot the breeze about comics. I remember chatting about Legion of Super Heroes for like 2 hours with the dude once. 2 hours!
Here's a pic of him at Comic-Con, he was well known there and it will not be the same without him! As much as a pain in the ass it probably was for him (he practically moved half his store down every year) he always seemed really happy.
I made up a tongue twister of his name once - Rory Root's Rural Rollercoaster.
I'll miss you Root!

Comics have been presented within a wide number of publishing and typographical formats, from the very short panel cartoon to the more lengthy graphic novel. The cartoon, traditionally containing satirical or humorous content in the manner of those seen in The New Yorker or Private Eye, originate from the mid nineteenth century. This form of comics is still popular, although the last few years has seen a reduction in the number of editorial cartoonists employed in the US media.Although there is some dispute as to whether the cartoon constitutes a form of comics, a precursor or a related form, it has been argued that since the cartoon both combines words with image and constructs a narrative, it merits inclusion as a form of comics.
